Under the Roof of the World – Suru Bouldering

Checkout my latest print magazine article in Climbing Magazine. Climbing is the largest publication in the world promoting content related to climbing.


The article is about how Suru, a remote place of Ladakh rose to become India’s one of the renowned bouldering location. It features the journey of Tenzing Jamyang (Jammy), Sandeep Maity, Suhail Kalpokri, Muzammil Hussain (local of Kargil) of discovering the paradise to organizing nation’s first International Bouldering Festival from 2016. The festival received UIAA award in 2019 and now is known all over the world.

The Suru valley first made headlines when Pirmin Bertle, a Swiss climber, gave India its hardest problem, Bacteria (8B+/ V14) in the upper Suru Valley at Rangdum in 2015.

Other climbers featured in the article are Varun Mishra and Prerna Dangi. Pictures are from adventure photographers Sharad Chandra and Abhijeet Singh.
